The development of the policy framework of Women, Peace and Security (WPS)

Cultural Relativism and Gender

“But they don’t really want gender equality in Afghanistan!” This is an argument I hear a lot, when discussing the benefits of a gender mainstreaming approach to international peace and security.
This three hour talk plus interactive elements aims at reflecting on this statement from different perspectives.
I advocate for cultural sensitivity instead of hiding behind cultural relativism as a way forward.

The session was part of the Training “Gender Perspectives”, Held by the Centre for Operative Communication of the German Armed Forces.
